Blogging Tips for Nigerian Authors

The hype about making money through blogging is building in Nigeria!  This is all so exciting and I predict that just like we witnessed phenomenal success in the home movie experiment, that success story would be nothing compared to what we are going to see in the blogging arena. Like everything else, however, it runs the risk of being ABUSED. So, on these pages of my blog, I will contribute my own bit towards guiding the whole affair towards a positive conclusion. Let me give some important advice on blogging.

  1. Blogging is a career, it’s a profession. It has it’s own set of skills.  So not everyone can blog successfully, just like not everyone can be a medical doctor, or a musician.  (I will post soon on the specific skills needed to be a blogger so that you can check yourself out.)
  2. Blogging is essentially about content. So begin with the question, “What niche, or area of life, am I most qualified to write about?”  Is it in current affairs?  Relationships?  Business?  Religion?  Leadership?  or any combination of other niches?
  3. What do I have to say in these areas? Do you have anything to say?  Your content must be DEEP, SOLID, RELEVANT, WELL RESEARCHED, ORIGINAL.
  4. Have a long term perspective. It takes time to profile yourself and your content.  It takes time to build an online audience.  It takes time to build an original and authentic brand that reflects who you are, your purpose, abilities and passion.
  5. Be consistent in your efforts. Don’t post today and then leave your blog stale for another one week.  If you want to blog, then discipline yourself to post something deep and interesting at least once every three days (for beginners) and then grow to post at least once every day.
  6. Never put money first. You will eventually make money, if you have something to say.  Otherwise, you’ll simply drop out like the other 99% out of the ‘Blogging Marathon’.

Happy blogging!!!
